NAMS

The module of SEEMiS that Scottish councils use to manage Early Learning and Childcare (ELC) applications and allocation.

What it means

NAMS is the part of SEEMiS that Scottish councils use for ELC admissions. It holds ELC applications, records which setting each child is allocated to, and keeps the ELC record for each child.

SEEMiS is being replaced nationally. Councils have been told that the replacement programme does not carry NAMS forward. A council that relies on NAMS will need another way to take ELC applications and allocate places.

Much of the work around NAMS happens outside it: funded hours sums in spreadsheets, letters and emails to parents, and lists sent to partner providers.

Also called Nursery Application Management System.

How Admit handles it

Admit replaces and extends NAMS. It does what NAMS did: applications, allocation and ELC records. It also covers the work councils did around it: rules-based allocation on your own criteria, funded hours calculated automatically, portals for parents and partner providers, extra hours, messaging and an audit log.

Existing children are brought in by bulk upload, so a council does not start from an empty system. Admit works alongside whichever management information system a council chooses. It is live at West Lothian Council.
